How To Tighten The Refrigerator Door On A Kenmore Elite
Dec 02, 2016
A refrigerator can only keep your food cool if its doors close properly. A loose door is prone to swing open, enabling room-temperature air to get in and spoil your food. The right way to tighten the door on your Kenmore Elite refrigerator depends on the model you have.
Unplug the refrigerator and slide it out from the wall. Because of the weight of the unit, have a friend give you a hand.
Tilt the fridge backward slightly, and place a sturdy object under the front edge so the front feet are elevated slightly off of the ground.
Twist the front feet to extend them. The direction you turn the feet will depend on how the feet are threaded.
Gently lower the fridge so all four feet are firmly on the ground, and then test the door again. Often adjusting the feet so that the fridge is level makes tightening the door unnecessary.
Tighten Doors: Single-Door and Double-Door Models
Open the refrigerator door and hold it open. If you have a side-by-side Kenmore Elite model, this method will only work for the left door.
Turn the nut in the door hinge to the right to raise the door. The nut is located on the bottom of the door.
Gently close and open the door several times to test that it functions properly and creates a firm seal when closed. If the door still does not seem tight enough, proceed to the next step.
Pry off the top hinge cover on the door with a flat-headed screwdriver. Tighten the exposed hinge screws. You may need a friend to hold the door while you do this. Replace the hinge cover when you're finished.
Double-Door Refrigerators: Right Door
Open the refrigerator's right door and hold it open. On many side-by-side models, the right door does not have a bolt and must instead be adjusted using spacers.
Gently lift the door with one hand so it raises at the middle hinge.
Insert snap rings around the exposed hinge bolt using pliers. Grip the snap bolts gently with the pliers to avoid bending or breaking them. Three snap rings are supplied with Kenmore Elite side-by-side refrigerators at the time of purchase.
Insert additional snap rings to further raise the door.
Gently close and open the door several times to test that it functions properly and creates a firm seal when closed.
